Treadmills are the Marmite of the running world, your love them or you hate them, or you may just feel meh about them! An hour on a treadmill is like 5 hours of road running - that's my experience of it, they are tough physically and mentally, so imagine 24 hours on a treadmill. Well imagine no more as that is what I am taking on and for a very good a personal reason.
Why am I doing it? Cancer treatment is tough on the body, in 2021 as part of my treatment programme I had chemotherapy. ChemoHero was founded by Lisa Wallis whist she was receiving treatment for breast cancer, sadly Lisa passed away in 2021 but her legacy are Boxes of Kindness. These boxes are gifted to those in Devon and often afar who are receiving chemotherapy, they are packed full of the most thoughtful touches.
I am fundraising so ChemoHero can keep delivering these Boxes of Kindness to those receiving cancer treatment. Thank you for supporting me in achieving this goal.
Read more below about ChemoHero to see why have chosen to support them and how YOU can get involved too.
ChemoHero and their Boxes of Kindness
Over 40 different items go into a box of kindness, and some have been donated, some sponsored but most have been fundraised for by the amazing North Devon community. If we add up the cost of all the products in the box sponsored and bought we get to a total value of over £100.
Our boxes of kindness are given to patients on their first chemotherapy treatment in the Seamoor Unit at North Devon District Hospital. The hard-working nurses give the boxes to the patients and we know they enjoy giving them out just as much as we enjoy putting them together.
The items in the box are always changing because we like to surprise our chemo heroes with a host of useful and luxury products.
I am proud to be supporting ChemoHero and thank you for helping me achieve my objectives.
Really sent to me by the Vicar of Dibley!
The tough night-time hours are going to be a lot more fun now! Dawn French, who I've admired for many years, and laughed so hard with in classics like the Christmas Lunch Incident in the Vicar of Dibley, has sent me her kaleidoscope sunglasses.
Dawn is recovering from a knee operation after recreating the famous 'puddle jump' and injuring herself. Whilst, in her owns words 'was off my t*its on post op meds' she purchased these glasses and posted to social media.
I commented that these would be amazing for my 24 hour treadmill run, and to my surprise Dawn replied inviting me to send her my address. Two days later and the glasses arrive along with a wonderful note. I'm touched beyond words.
Not only will I wear these during the run, but I will make some fun videos and take some photos with the glasses leading up to the run.
And what can you see when wearing them.....well it's trippy for sure!
Thank you :-)
An emotional story behind why I have chosen to run for 24 hours on a treadmill
